
Wilhelm von La Chevallerie
Wilhelm joined EMB South Africa in 2008 as an executive director. He graduated from Pretoria University, completing his B Com (Hons) degree in actuarial science, and continued his studies to qualify as a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.
After a spending a short period conceptualising model office software in Munich, Germany, Wilhelm returned to South Africa to join Hannover Re Africa’s actuarial team. He led this team, continuing the implementation of stochastic reserving methods, pro-active capital management and technical pricing.
Wilhelm gathered further experience as a senior treaty underwriter of property and casualty business. He later joined a primary insurer’s executive team, focusing entirely on programme (agency) business.
His main areas of experience are capital modelling, reserving and reinsurance structuring. Wilhelm has served on various sub-committees of the South African Actuarial Society’s short-term insurance committee and has spoken at several conventions.
