Geoff Werner, FCAS MAAA
Geoff Werner is a Managing Director with EMB America LLC. During Geoff’s 18 year career in the insurance industry, he has specialized in personal lines pricing. Before joining our team, Geoff held a variety of positions at United Services Automobile Association (USAA) and GEICO. His positions at USAA included executive director of Actuarial Development, executive director of Property Pricing, executive director of Research, and director of Auto Pricing. Throughout his career, he was responsible for the creation and implementation of many initiatives that were instrumental in his company’s continued success. For example, he was responsible for implementing multivariate analysis, developing territorial ratemaking procedures, improving competitive measurement tools, analyzing impacts of legislation, and implementing tiering programs.
Geoff graduated from Georgetown University in 1990 with a double major in Mathematics and Government. He graduated cum laude and received the Dahlgren Medal for Mathematics. He became a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) in 1994 and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) in 1997.
Geoff is very active on industry and professional committees. He currently serves as the chair of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exam committee and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA) personal automobile subcommittee. In the past Geoff was the President and College Relations Officer for the Southwest Actuarial Forum (SWAF) and participated on CAS Program Planning Committee, the American Academy of Actuaries Cat Working Group, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Actuarial Advisory Panel, the Southwest Texas State University Mathematics Advisory Board, and the University of Texas at Austin Actuarial Student Advisory Council.
Geoff also supports the actuarial profession in other ways. Geoff has published “The US Postal Service’s New Role: Territorial Ratemaking” (CAS Forum: Winter 1999), “Incorporation of Fixed Expenses” (CAS Forum: Winter 2004 and accepted by the CAS CORP for inclusion in Proceedings), and “GLM Basic Modeling: Avoiding Common Pitfalls” (CAS Forum: Winter 2007). In addition to writing papers, regularly participates on panels at CAS conventions and seminars.
