Steve Shurety - Management Consultant 


Steve Shurety joined EMB Consulting from Deloitte & Touche in 2005. He has been a Partner at Deloitte and previously at Bacon & Woodrow, the consulting actuaries, for over ten years. At B&W he was the leading figure in creating an effective non-actuarial consulting team focused on the insurance sector and complementing the actuarial skills of the core B&W business. 

Steve now leads the initiative to establish a similar consulting team for EMB, with the intention of being able to provide wider strategic and operational advice to EMB’s clients where this will provide additional benefit. He remains an active working consultant, continuing to concentrate principally on two main types of work - business strategy and major implementation programmes. 

Some recent projects include: 

- review of the central fund capital required by the Lloyd’s insurance market, and of the funding mechanism to be used to provide this capital; 
- a business strategy review for a major UK motor and home distributor, examining the strategic alternatives to the existing multi-insurer panel arrangement, reviewing the capability of potential partners and framing a partner(s) selection exercise; 
- business process review for the home and travel insurance business of a UK bank, refining the processes used for full business administration of a policy base of over 1 million.
