So, you want to work for a consultancy...
...but why EMB?
Name: Rebecca Paver Degree: BSc (Hons) Physics from Leeds University Work History: Joined EMB from University in 2007
EMB is a company that’s seriously going places. It’s at the forefront of insurance development and everyone here is proud of our innovative people and rapid international growth. We’re the largest specialist general insurance consultancy in the UK, and we got there through daring to be different and relishing challenges.
EMB is a fantastic place to be as a graduate. Unlike other companies, age is no barrier to your influence and success here, and there’s no problem getting your voice heard if you’ve got a good idea. Your close proximity to the people who own the business and the industry’s leading experts will put you on a steep learning curve.
At EMB there aren’t any constrictive role definitions – you’re not a ‘first year’ when you join, you’re a consultant. You’ll get to go to lots of meetings from an early stage. We won’t be hiding you away from the clients! Everyone is important here and this inclusiveness is reflected in our bonus scheme which everyone participates in, and which is linked to the firm’s performance. Bonus payments can be quite generous which means that you have added incentive to drive the firm forward from day one.
EMB’s culture of development and innovation extends to the way we consult. Our unique knowledge transfer ethos has us training our clients on all our latest ideas. Unlike our competitors, this is no problem for us because we know we’ll come up with more. It keeps us interested and moving forward. There’s certainly always lots of new projects on the go.
As well as consulting, at EMB we write and develop our own market-leading software. The two sides of the business are closely linked, with the developers working on requests and ideas from the consultants as well as their own suggestions. This partnership is a formidable weapon in a technical industry, and means that our software does the job we, and our clients, need it to. As a graduate you can get involved in this process if you want to, and you can learn to train clients as well.
EMB is involved in a huge variety of insurance areas. We work in insurance and reinsurance for Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and London Markets. All our work is in the context of our client’s competitive business environments so there’s a lot to think about before you come up with any answers!
EMB is full of big personalities and is a genuinely lively atmosphere. People here are confident, clever and friendly, and definitely not afraid to be different.
Is this you? Why not apply? You certainly won’t be bored…
