On the 9th of January 2008 EMB South Africa Actuaries and Consultants celebrated its second anniversary. The first two years of the local EMB office have witnessed exceptional growth, reflected in nine of the top ten South African short-term insurers becoming clients. This is built on the strong EMB actuarial and client focus. As one of our clients remarked: “EMB are technically excellent. Their products are the best on the market.”
EMB international has also continued growing globally, building on the seamless cross-pollination of expertise and resources. Accompanying this growth has been the recent appointment of Wilhelm von La Chevallerie as a director at EMB-SA as well as two more actuarial staff. Wilhelm, a qualified actuary, has specific experience in reinsurance, reserving and capital modelling. Furthermore he adds his experience of the widely used underwriting-agency model. “I’m delighted to have joined EMB at this point when they are growing rapidly. I am looking forward to working with the variety of clients, blending local knowledge with global expertise,” said Wilhelm.
While South African short-term insurers are coming to terms with the proposed FCR regulations due for implementation in 2010 /11, many have found that EMB’s software and consulting advice are of great assistance in simplifying the work required.
