New Head of Software Set Out Vision - August 2005
"Dependable products that move with the times, that are genuinely innovative and make a positive difference to our clients."
Andy Lingard, EMB's Head of Software, has spent much of his first six months getting to know clients, his colleagues and EMB's product portfolio. He now has a clear vision of what he wants to achieve. He has already put in place enhanced processes and additional expertise in readiness for delivering EMB's next generation of software.
Looking to the future he has three priorities:
- Timely incremental enhancement of current products, which he acknowledges to be a never-ending process.
- Identify and exploit synergies between products, and develop new capabilities to coherently support a broader range of analysis, simulation, optimisation and business decision tasks. EMB software packages already feed off each other, but he feels there are significant further opportunities.
- Exploit advances in information and communications technology to increase the power and flexibility of EMB's software.
"An example avenue of research", he says "is applying current and emerging Internet technologies to enhance use of our products, particularly when deployed across larger organisations."
Andy has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Imperial College, London. He previously helped to set up a successful telecoms software company. He describes his new job as "a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast moving, intellectually challenging environment where multi-disciplinary skills and advanced implementation technologies are brought together to create practical business benefits."
