EMB Opens in South Africa - February 2006
EMB, Europe’s leading non-life actuaries, have continued their international expansion by opening an office in Johannesburg. EMB South Africa will provide a full range of services to the continent’s largest insurance and reinsurance market at a time of rapid change, most notably a switch to risk-based solvency regulation.
The office is headed up by Lisa Pines and André Cloete. Lisa has fourteen years insurance experience, including ten years in general insurance actuarial consulting. She chairs the Actuarial Society of South Africa’s Personal Lines Committee. André has worked as an actuary for over seven years in South Africa and the UK. He has both in-house and consultancy experience.
"There’s tremendous interest in what we have to offer", says Lisa. "EMB’s experience of risk-based regulation and also their pricing skills are especially relevant at this time, and people are excited by their software offerings; there’s nothing else like it."
"Johannesburg is an insurance and reinsurance hub for most of Africa and we are very pleased to have a strong presence in this important market," says EMB partner Karl Murphy.
EMB South Africa is the firm’s third expansion in the past twelve months. They opened offices in India and Korea last year.
